Captive in Solitude

solitude-in-captivity-1.jpg

We were wandering around the San Diego Zoo last month. It was sunny and hot, and it was the middle of the day. If you’ve been to a zoo in the middle of the day, you know the animals go into hiding, or they are sleeping. But we got lucky with the lioness. She was lazing around in full view of the crowd. The lighter shades crossing this photo are from the chain link fence. San Diego Zoo is very “open”, but I guess they don’t trust the lions to not eat the people!

If you’ve never been to the San Diego Zoo, I recommend it, whether you have kids or not. It’s a wonderful place to see animals you aren’t likely to see anywhere else and the overall layout is excellent.
