Golden Cactus

cactus-1.jpg I took a long hot hike in the late afternoon at Fort McDowell State Park in Arizona to get this photo as we dodged two snakes. Who says there aren’t snakes out here?? I think the golden brush and the mountains in the background with the cactus make this photo very nice to look at.

Neon Tulips

neon-tulips.jpgHere are my glowing Easter tulips……which happen to be my favorite flower. I used Photoshop CS3 to give my tulips a bit more color.

Neon Blue

neon-blue.jpgThis photo was taken with my Nikon Micro lens as well.  Unfortunately, the fish refused to sit still when you are trying to take their photo. I used photoshop CS3 filter tool - glowing edges to make this fish have a bit more character.

Petite Pink

Again, here is another flower I took with my Nikon Micro lens. I cropped it making it portrait and used my rule of thirds for this photo.

Lilac

lilac-flower-1-edit-1.jpgThis flower was taken with my new Nikon AF-S 60mm f/2.8G ED lens.  Do you see how my subject is clear but the background is blurred?  The AF-S 60mm f/2.8G ED is a compact, versatile Micro-NIKKOR lens which is ideal for close-up, copy work and general photography. An Internal Focusing (IF) design allows faster, smoother autofocusing and eliminates barrel length changes for consistent handling. The AF-S 60mm f/2.8G ED has been optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness on both the Nikon FX-format and DX-format image sensors. A rounded 7-blade diaphragm gives out-of-focus image elements a more natural appearance. M/A Focus Mode allows fast, smooth transitions autofocus to manual operation. For best results, the camera should be on a tripod when using this lens to photograph.

Cowboy Barn

cowboy-on-barn.jpg My husband and I were out driving looking for unique structures for me to photograph with my recently purchased Nikon D300 SLR camera and to test out my new Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR II DXI lens. This lens is an all round 11.1x zoom lens, ideal for professionals to use for countless situations and occasions, such as landscape, architecture, portrait, wedding, wildlife, holidays, expeditions and general travel photography. With a zoom range of 27-300mm (35mm equiv.), one does not need to carry multiple lenses. On top of this, the lens is equipped with “VR II” the second generation of Nikon’s VR technology that enables the lens to shoot 4 stops slower (instead of 3 stops with the former VR system), ideal for shooting in low light conditions and/or without a tripod. This lens is ideal for me because I’m not one to carry a tripod around with me all the time unless, of course, I’m doing portraits. Typically I like holding my camera and taking photos but I have to admit, to get the best shot possible, sometimes you need to use a tripod.

Unique Barn

bw-barn.jpg

Here is a barn I took about 15 miles from my home. I was playing in photoshop and decided to turn this barn into something different….almost looks like a negative, huh?

Mission 2

mission-2.jpgThis is another photo taken while in San Antonio. I used the trees as a frame for the unique building in the background. Once up close, I was able to see more of the buildings detail.  I never realized how interesting taking photos of architecture was until I took a photography class to pass the time.

The Alamo

alamo.jpgThis photo was taken in San Antonio, Texas at the Alamo. I used Photoshop to crop the sides of this photo and turned it to black and white to give it a more dramatic look. The Alamo (San Antonio de Valero Mission) is a former mission and fortress compound, now a museum, in San Antonio, Texas located at 300 Alamo Plaza. The compound, which originally comprised a sanctuary and surrounding buildings, was built by the Spanish Empire in the 18th century for the education of local Native Americans after their conversion to Christianity. After its abandonment as a mission, it was used as a fortress in the 19th century and was the scene of several military actions, including most notably the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, one of the pivotal battles between the forces of the Republic of Texas and Mexico during the Texas Revolution.
